The subject of urinary incontinence is quite important for American women. 20 to 40 million women in the U.S. experience urinary leaks each year, and over nine million experience severe symptoms. In fact, it could be as high as 1 in every 2 women. This wide range in figures is attributed to the fact that incontinence is an intensely personal issue. While the lack of bladder control is embarrassing and expensive—the true additional cost of incontinence per woman per year may be over $2,000—it is neither a consequence of aging nor is life-threatening. “It can be successfully treated in the privacy of home, avoiding the pervasive fear of judgment,” says Brent Reider, the president of Relevium Labs Inc. “But first, to understand the treatment, it is important to know how a lack of bladder control begins and how to treat the cause or symptoms,” he adds.

The muscles of the pelvic floor hold and directly support a woman’s organs, including the bladder, uterus, bowel, and intestines. If these muscles weaken and can no longer hold the organs in their natural position, the organs shift, which places pressure on the bladder and results in what is commonly known as stress urinary incontinence. If muscles contract spasmodically, often from muscle inactivity, the contraction produces an urgent need to void. The leaks that result from the urgency are named “urge” urinary incontinence. Mixed urinary incontinence is when a person has both stress and urge urinary incontinence.

“Muscle re-education is a solution that can directly address the causes of stress, urge and mixed urinary incontinence - not simply the symptom,” says Reider.

Relevium Labs’s Yarlap is an industry-first solution that can address this condition effectively, reliably, and safely.

Yarlap® is the first non-prescription medical device cleared by the FDA to help women treat stress, urge, or mixed urinary incontinence.

The Yarlap® is a revolutionary pelvic training device that treats the cause and does the entire pelvic floor workout for you

At the core, Yarlap®’s AutoKegel® Technology provides women a gentle and effective pelvic floor workout. It re-educates a woman’s pelvic floor muscles which may have lost tone from atrophy or strain.

This solves two major issues. First, pelvic floor exercises are difficult for a woman due to the lack of physical orientation. Second, the issue of urinary leaks and pelvic floor muscle function is intensely personal. “Indications suggest that two out of every three women who get instructions of Kegel exercises does not have the time or the ability to do them correctly,” says Reider. As a result, they do not return for a second visit. The Yarlap addresses these two issues and helps the patient comply with the physicians, nurses, and physical therapists’ instructions. “Yarlap® compliance gets the patient to return,” says Reider.

The device uses AutoKegel® Technology to send signals directly to the muscle, making sure that the user gets the right workout every single time. “The Yarlap® with AutoKegel® is a revolutionary pelvic training device that does the entire pelvic floor workout for you. It is hard enough trying to isolate those muscles on your own, so we have taken the guesswork out of it,” mentions Reider.

What differentiates Yarlap is its state-of-art AutoKegel® Technology, which is the latest breakthrough for pelvic floor muscle re-education. Also, the experienced team at Relevium Labs is internationally recognized as leaders in the muscle re-education field and the company’s patents—both domestic and international—are for patient safety and efficacy. “As leaders in AI Technology for the re-education of muscles, our technologies are sought-after regarding these technical advances,” Reider adds. The AI technology in Yarlap® has far-reaching implications for radically improving patient compliance and outcomes.

Yarlap® has received a fantastic response from women and going forward, the company will continue on its mission to help women open conversations with healthcare professionals. “Breaking the stigma of this health issue is something we have been very proud in doing, and we will be continuing to do so in the future,” concludes Reider.
